We took the long boat trip to Pakbeng, which was beautiful peaceful. However, it was a long trip and therefore, to be met at the port at Pakbeng by staff from Le Grande was a real treat while most others had to carry their own bags to their various hotels. We were met with welcome drinks by the manager. We were blown away by the beauty of this unique resort. In the midst of the breathtaking nature of this region and overlooking the Mekong River, sits this exquisite resort made up of many bungalows of various sizes. As a family, we were shown to two bungalows which excited the children especially as they had their own bungalow. The bungalows are stunning. Huge king size beds overlook the breathtaking view. The rooms are spacious and have the most stunning shower rooms with a view. You feel like you are showering in a waterfall due to the setting and views. We then enjoyed a few hours swimming and splashing in the pool that sits atop the resort which makes the hours fly as you are too busy trying to take all the view in. The lovely staff are prepared to put your order of cold drinks or snacks in your fingers at any time. To end the evening that went by too fast, we had a family dinner in the restaurant. The a la carte menu consists of the delicious tastes and aromas of Laos prepared by the fantastic chef. Our family kept wondering if we should pinch ourselves as it simply was too beautiful and wonderful to be real. We never left the hotel as there certainly was enough to do during our few hours there. We would highly recommend a few nights there as one or two nights is not enough. You really can take a step back and breathe in the serenity of the beauty and peace that surrounds you. We even got to see elephants bathing in the river the following morning over an excellent breakfast. We were sad to leave and we hope to return on our next visit to Laos. Don't make our mistake...book a few nights...you won't regret it!

The view from this hotel is stunning. It sits atop a hill overlooking the Mekong. Across the river, you can see elephants from the reserve come down in the early morning. Enjoy the sunset with a drink at the infinity pool. The rooms are individual spacious bungalows. Each bungalow has a balcony, although no chairs to sit on. The staff add to the overall lovely experience. They really do their best to please. The breakfast and supper bouffets are mediocre but anything you get a la carte is excellent. We stayed here two nights which made our stay more enjoyable. If you only stay one night during your slow boat trip, you do not have enough time to enjoy this relaxing hotel. Although, there is nothing to do in town, hanging out by the pool at this hotel is a great way to rest during your trip.
This 1 year old hotel is a gorgeous property. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Mekong River sits this magical hotel. The villas are spacious with very nice bathrooms, comfortable beds and decorated nicely. We had a lovely view from our large balcony, only wish that there were chairs or chaise to sit on. The spa and gym are not open yet. We went for a swim at sundown and the view from the large infinity pool is incredible! They have a pool bar. We ate dinner at the restaurant. The food was good Asian cuisine. The prices were a good value. The servers do their best. After dinner we went to the lounge for drinks and a Cuban cigar. We had so much fun with the bartenders; really great guys. We felt like we made new Laos friends! We highly recommend this hotel. We were on a 2 day Mekong cruise and opted for the cruise only package so that we could stay here. We were so glad we did. Doing the math the price came out the same and this property was way nicer than the basic hotel included with the cruise/ hotel package. I wish we would have stayed longer at the hotel. Next time we would love to stay here for 2 or 3 nights. It is a really special, luxury boutique hotel.
Hotel is 3 years old new. Great view, isolated comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staffs, tasty with reasonable price restaurant. In the morning, buildings are floating on the mist. Daytime, view of mountains and a river. Totally recommendable.
Beautiful hotel, the room was lovely. Amazing infinity pool and outstanding view. We found the food, while of good quality, to be lacking in flavour/spice. It would be my recommendation to serve some western comfort food and then to serve authentic Asian food. We also found the food and drinks to be expensive. Once at the hotel it is not easy or convenient to return to town. I’d recommend that the hotel provide a tuk tuk service to and from town as I think it would encourage more independent travels to say and enjoy the beautiful rooms.
Le Grande is so nice and such a great value that we stayed longer than expected in Pakbeng. The resort is set atop a hill probably 200 meters above the Mekong. The views are amazing. Our villa was huge with plenty of space for relaxing. Both the restaurant and pool are at the high point of the resort so you can take in the scenery while dining or taking a swim. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We took a tour of local khmu villages which was really interesting. There is an elephant sanctuary just across the river. More things to do than i realized. Normally I stay at guest houses thinking that the high end resorts are too expensive. Au contraire mon frere. This place is not that expensive and so worth it.
Probably one of the most beautiful places we have visited on this planet.. Often heavy mist in the morning, sun and more sun, hot from morning until evening.
The villas on top are really excellent, built beautiful and the decor is tastefully.
They had every chance to make this a 6 star...
Believe they must have some problems since staff, generally, are so unskilled... They do, too, often not understand even the most simple hotel phrases.. We were served wrong food in the wrong order etc etc
Hot water in the fantastic shower overlooking the Mekong is not existing. Heard the same from others. Breakfast could be improved significantly for this category of hotel.
Positive was that a few at the hotel, being able to speak English took responsibility.
So all in all a great stay, but they should easily be able to step this up several notches 😉
After being on the Mekong all day it was great to arrive at this beautiful hotel. We had to walk up a very steep bank from the river and were transported on a minibus to a hotel.
The rooms were amazing and had huge bathrooms, although the shower was a bit complicated and you had to stand on stones whilst showering which was very strange and would be quite dangerous if not that agile. The water wasn't very hot either.
Nice restaurant although limited choice but enough to choose from. Quite a long walk from our room and lucky we had a torch as you definitely needed it!!!!
